He’d never taken a woman to dinner that looked quite like Iris Willingham.

Chocolate brown turtleneck sweater tucked into light brown pants and flat shoes. Very flat shoes. No belt, no jewelry, nothing even remotely feminine. The entire outfit screamed business and might be the most unflattering thing he’d ever seen a woman wear. A bag would at least show more skin than her current choice.

A wild mass of strawberry blonde curls framed the milky white skin of her face, while the most amazing pair of green eyes gazed at him with narrow apprehension. Those eyes were the only things that kept her from blending into the dark paneled wall behind her.

She reached for her coat hanging on the hook next to the front door. “Let’s get this over with, shall we?”

“You read my mind.” He grabbed the collar of her gray wool coat and held it open for her to slip her arms inside. A move he quickly regretted when she recoiled away from him.

“Thank you, that’s not necessary,” she snapped as she twisted to the side and wrestled the coat on herself. She couldn’t have made it any clearer that this was business, not a social dinner.

Debora Dennis is an outstanding chaptermate, a good friend, and a super-talented writer. She’s quick with a smile and always up for any challenge tossed her way.

She’s one of the best assets of Dunes & Dreams RWA and today, she celebrates her birthday. I wish you joy, dear friend. I wish you laughter because you always bring me so much of it. I wish you love. And I wish you a well-deserved multi-book contract in the coming year.
